Dentro de la dislexia: el conocimiento contextual y la metodología de una investigación guiada por la práctica a través del diseño tipográfico y la autoetnografía

Resumen

Hay un mayor interés en la literatura reciente sobre el efecto de disfluencia en un esfuerzo por contextualizar los resultados de la investigación tipográfica que se basa en la legibilidad funcional. Recientemente, un pequeño grupo de investigadores tipográficos y de legibilidad han comenzado a pedir más colaboración para generar conocimiento que sea útil y práctico ( Thiessen, Beier & Keage, 2020). Este artículo presenta un proyecto de investigación de diseño dirigido por la práctica que utiliza dibujos iterativos y arreglos tipográficos a través de un enfoque autoetnográfico para transmitir la experiencia personal con la dislexia. El proyecto reflexiona sobre la pregunta: ¿Cómo se puede utilizar el dibujo iterativo y la composición tipográfica para expresar gráficamente la experiencia de aprendizaje disléxico subjetivo de una persona? Como pregunta secundaria y particularmente enfocada a la práctica, es cómo el proyecto puede contribuir a brindar conocimientos a una audiencia no disléxica de la comprensión de palabras y la disfluencia tipográfica que enfrentan las personas con condiciones disléxicas. La investigación está informada por una variedad de prácticas contextuales, profesionales y literatura, sobre los estados y condiciones de la experiencia disléxica, el uso de la adaptación tipográfica y la impresión Risograph. El proyecto se basa en un enfoque basado en la práctica, donde la práctica creativa y la investigación son complementarias pero distintivas. La investigación se basa en el mundo de interés definido por la práctica, mientras que el investigador practicante está en el centro de la investigación (Vear, 2022). Para suscitar una perspectiva disléxica, el proyecto emplea la autoetnografía como estrategia para recopilar e interpretar evidencia a través de un proceso crítico de ilustración y diseño tipográfico. La investigación contribuye a los discursos actuales en áreas como las relacionadas con los principios tipográficos de indicaciones visuales y énfasis, así como en otras áreas más amplias, como la forma en que podemos determinar el umbral para la falta de fluidez y el impacto que tienen las distracciones gráficas en el efecto de la falta de fluidez. .
